I am actually pleased and proud to report that if I got hit by the bus on the way home from work today, FlightGear would continue to thrive and develop with out me. It’s been a challenge and an honor to help revive this software, build on top of some incredibly brilliant work, and give it a much more modern face (and even increase its capabilities in some areas.)īut really, in the past year or two, the really important core FlightGear coding has been done by many others. The original developer of this code was a really brilliant flight test engineer from the Edwards area who sadly passed away a couple years ago. That has been a really fun and interesting and educational experience. I’ve also done some work recently interfacing FlightGear with a really brilliant piece of code that is designed to analyze handling qualities and predict/find potential pilot induced oscillation problems in advanced, high performance jets. I was recently involved in scripting a FlightGear based simulator for use in the Fox TV show: JUSTICE for an episode involving a plane crash, which incidentally airs tonight, so definitely check it out if you have the time. Some of my recent work has been involved in using FlightGear as a visualization tool for UAV development. This means a lot less coding than in the past, but I still try to keep on top of things. I have two young children and some increased demands at my day job, but I still do as much as I can. Yes, I definitely continue to participate. I used to make a sincere attempt to track and log these contributions, but it just became overwhelming and I gave up.”Įven though the project has grown, Olsen says that he still contributes code to the project: Olsen told me that “We’ve had literally hundreds of people contribute code, graphics, 3D models, hardware, and all sorts of other stuff over the years. Today, more than a dozen developers have commit privileges. “I’ve done my personal development of FlightGear in Linux since day one, but *very* early in the process we had Windows ports, and Mac ports, and SGI ports, and Sun ports, etc.” Olsen added that he’s been “a Unix/Linux fanatic since the day I first saw ‘multitasking’ on a Unix box in college.” Multiplatform, OpenGL-based accelerated 3D graphics, real terrain skin for our scenery, flexible flight models, etc. In 1997 I took over more formal leadership of the project and we headed off mostly in our current direction. no OpenGL) but that effort thankfully stalled. We started out writing our own 3D graphics routines to run on 2D hardware (i.e. A brief history of FlightGearĬurtis Olsen provided this account of FlightGear’s beginnings:įlightGear really started in its earliest form in 1996, about 10 years ago. I’ve heard tales of woe on the IRC channel from those trying to run FlightGear on Linux with ATI cards. For Linux users, the best bet seems to be an Nvidia card with 3D enabled. The bottom line is that you need 3D acceleration. You can also grab a tarball, or check out the latest from CVS, and build it from scratch, but beware, it may require a serious effort to build.īefore you bother installing FlightGear, however, make sure your system meets the minimum hardware requirements. In Ubuntu Edgy, that’s 0.9.10-2, and that’s what I have used while writing this article. It was used in an episode of Fox TV’s legal drama Justice to prove pilot error in the fatal crash of a private plane.įor most of us, the best way to install FlightGear is to use the version included in our distribution of choice. How hot? You may have seen it used recently on prime time TV and not realized it. After 10 years of development, it has suddenly become a very hot item. You can choose to fly more than 100 different aircraft, ranging from a Sopwith Camel to a UFO, you can take off and land from thousands of airports, and you can fly over virtually any terrain in the world. It is sophisticated, realistic, and extensible. FlightGear is a multiplatform, GPLed flight simulator.

AI models are now rendered based on display size rather than range.Reduced memory occupancy for scenery tiles.Improved frame-rates on some systems from more efficient use of Uniforms. However, the best way to install FlightGear on your Linux distribution is to use the default Software Center or Package Manager application and the pre-built binary packages from the default software repositories (third-party repos are also provided the the community for Ubuntu distros). On Linux/UNIX it is available for download as a source archive, as well as pre-built binaries for various Linux distributions, including Ubuntu, openSUSE, Fedora, Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Gentoo, or for Solaris, FreeBSD and IRIX systems. It is supported on the Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, IRIX, Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows OSes. Savvy tech users should know that the application is written entirely in the C++ and C programming language, using OpenGL, and it requires a 3D-enabled graphics card with OpenGL drivers, a 32-bit or 64-bit 2-3Ghz class CPU and at least 512MB or RAM. Its extensive world scenery database includes over 20,000 real world airports, taxiways, directional airport lighting, accurate terrain worldwide, scenery night lighting, paged scenery tiles, sloping runways, as well as correct runway placement and markings. In addition, the program features built-in support for multiple displays, as well as a number of networking options that allow it to communicate with GPS receivers, external autopilot, external flight dynamics modules or other FlightGear instances. Key features include flight dynamics models, accurate and extensive world scenery database, detailed and accurate sky model, open and flexible aircraft modeling system, as well as moderate hardware requirements. It also known as the world’s best free flight simulator that runs on Linux/UNIX, Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X operating systems. FlightGear v3.4 is out, available for Ubuntu, openSUSE, Fedora, Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Gentoo, or for Solaris, FreeBSD and Mac OSXįlightGear is an open source and cross-platform cooperative flight simulator software. If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10. Arnold says it again in The Running Man (1989).Arnold reprises the classic in Terminator 2: Judgment Day andlet's us know "She'll be back" about the female Terminator in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines then Christian Bale gives it a shot in Terminator Salvation. You've heard this line any time someone is leaving and planning on coming back. We guess people in the 80s liked to keep it simple…unlike their fashion choices. Neither Arnold Schwarzenegger nor cyborgs are known for being verbose, so it's not surprising that the most famous quote from The Terminator is three words, comprised of only nine letters and a punctuation mark. These three words are spoken by the Terminator, played by Arnold Schwarzenegger, inThe Terminator (directed by James Cameron, 1984). Time Terminator Series Experience Movie Future Assorted Movie Character Communication Context The Bishop, or Gaja as it was once known, has lost its vertical capability but its diagonal travel equals that of the modern Queen. Bishop – The Bishop we know today started with a severely circumscribed movement capability, although it possess the modern Knight’s ability to leap to its destination. Now that modern chess has reduced the number of battling armies of chess pieces and players behind them, from four to two, that familiar 64 square board that Chaturanga was born on, opened up, allowing the General, as the Queen was also known, to assume an equally powerful offensive role in modern play. What began as a Mantri, or counselor, was as incapable of long-reaching moves as the King, but equally dexterous. Queen – The Queen is a creature of great change in the world of chess pieces. Therefore, it has limited but dexterous movement capabilities. Like most royalty, the ‘ King’ has always been primarily an object of protection rather than one of attack. King – The King has always been royalty among chess pieces and if popularly recognized lineage were to be believed, began as the Raja. And their particular histories are as follows: Each player’s force of chess pieces consists of 2 – Rooks (Castles), 2 – Bishops, 2 – Knights, 1 – King, 1 – Queen and 8 – pawns. Modern regulation chess sets have a total of 32 chess pieces divided evenly between two players. Sounds daunting, but if the history and purpose of chess pieces are understood, this infinitely varied environment can be experienced and enjoyed to its fullest. The resulting number of game play options rockets to a figure that only International Grandmasters like Garry Kasparov and super-computers such as Deep Blue are able to even begin to grasp. Now consider an average chess piece position can possess as much as 218 movement possibilities. In fact, there are approximately 1040 possible legal chess piece positions. Pierre Mac Orlan, famous 20th century French writer and poet, once said, “There are more adventures on a chessboard than on all the seas of the world". Chess pieces with matching or unique movement qualities completing their intended purpose make for a sharp strategic ballet with nearly limitless possibilities of progression. Chess pieces are not only the rank-and-file of a chess game, but they are also the heart and soul of the chess game experience. Below you will find 16 fonts like Georgia. Now, let's take a look at a collection of fonts similar to Georgia. The Georgia typeface is quite popular in print production and is often used for printing body text and books. Despite that, the font usage was not limited to on-screen typography but also considered for print production. The typeface family was primarily designed to be used on computer monitors and the web, for the purpose of on-screen clarity and legibility at low resolutions. It was released in 1996, as part of Microsoft's "Core Fonts for the Web" collection. Georgia typeface is a registered trademark of the Microsoft Corporation. Georgia is legible at any size and possesses a visual charm, making it easy to read. It features alternating thick and thin strokes, ball terminals, a vertical axis, and a larger x-height that makes it excellent for long on-screen text passages. The Georgia font style is generous in width and character spacing. It is similar in appearance to the Times New Roman font, with subtle differences, like being bigger than Times at the same point size, and displaying a much larger x-height in true size. Georgia was designed by Matthew Carter as a serif typeface, tailored for on-screen display. The poem centers on a eulogy where the speaker emphasizes what happened during the dash, the symbol that represents all the time between the birth and death dates on the tombstone. It is created in the constructor and changed or accessed by the methods. Follow Us: The Dash is a 1996 poem by Linda Ellis that discusses the importance of making the most of life. Notice that it uses a complex conditional ( &) on line 14 to make sure that the loop doesn’t go beyond the length of the array, because if you had an array that had less than 5 elements, you wouldn’t want the code to try to double the 5th element which doesn’t exist! Notice that in this code, the array is a private instance variable of the class ArrayWorker. The following code doubles the first five elements in an array. You can loop through just some of the elements of an array using a for loop. You don’t have to loop through all of the elements of an array. You must start at the length of the array minus one. You can not start the index at the length of the array. The method will only return -1 if no value in the array is less than the passed value. You can also follow it in the visualizer by clicking on the Show Code Lens button. When searching for suitable grief words for a funeral or memorial service, many turn to a reading entitled ‘The Dash’. By displaying, sharing, or incorporating the printable version into your daily life, you can keep the message of the poem close at hand and live each day with purpose and gratitude. What do you think the following code will print out? First trace through it on paper keeping track of the array and the index variable. Not to mention, breath play in and of itself is dangerous and no one has found any way to safely do it yet. There are people that have ended up dead because they couldn't get out of their ties on their own and there was no one there to help them. Also, tying anything around your neck for breath play is something that is extremely dangerous. Which means you need to be very safe with bondage on your own and should certainly never put yourself into any situation that would be hard to get out of. One of the rules of bondage is never leave a bound person in the room alone. There are some things you can do but first I want to tell you want you really should avoid. I'm sorry you've been feeling so frustrated with this. Does anyone know how I can be my own Dom without accidentally doing something like putting myself in a situation where I can't get unbound, burn down my apartment, or end up seriously damaging my body?ītw I don't know if it's all that important to mention, but I'm a transgender male, meaning I have female genitalia, but identify as male. I need some guidance on how I can masturbate but also somehow keep bound, and lose a bit of control, I want to feel a bit powerless, yet be able to stop everything if something goes awry. I can't reach my climax and it's so frustrating that I end up often times crying afterwords. I've tried to masturbate, but it feels so lackluster when I can't bind myself and can't really torment myself as much as someone else can. The problem here is that since I'm single I don't have a Dom it's lead me to not get much sexual satisfaction. The thing with me is that I'm a masochist and I like being tied up, hurt, blindfolded and having things done to me like getting wax dripped on me. Further research is needed, especially to determine the best score threshold for accurate dementia diagnosis, especially in primary care settings. The authors say that the quality of the studies conducted on this topic wasn’t high enough to strongly recommend using the MoCA test for dementia diagnosis in various healthcare settings. Yet, using this cutoff also led to a significant number of incorrect results, with over 40% of people without dementia being mistakenly identified as having dementia. But other parts, like paying attention and using language, didn’t work as well.Ī 2021 review of seven studies found that, when practitioners used a score of less than 26 as a cutoff, the MoCA correctly detected more than 94% of people with dementia in different situations. The researchers found that some parts of the MoCA, like the executive function section that deals with planning and organization, were good at spotting concerns. This implies that while the MoCA can identify people needing more tests, it’s not ideal for diagnosing cognitive issues conclusively.Ī 2017 study looked at how well the MoCA works for people with Parkinson’s disease. In addition, when these results were compared to the performance of healthy individuals, the MoCA appeared to be more effective than it is in real clinical settings. Yet researchers note that its reliability for diagnosing these problems was limited. The test was able to confirm a typical ability to think and rule out severe issues like dementia. One study from 2020 assessed the MoCA’s effectiveness in detecting cognitive concerns among older adults in an outpatient mental health clinic. It appears to be particularly effective at identifying cognitive changes in individuals with higher education levels or when mild cognitive changes are the main focus of clinical attention.īut its accuracy can be influenced by factors such as the characteristics of the person being tested and the setting in which the test is administered. The accuracy of the MoCA test may vary depending on the specific context and population being assessed. |
